Admiring Marietta's history
14 Items
Local residents and visitors alike have come to Marietta for the beauty and charm of the town's historical sites. Even if they are not from the region, they can appreciate the significance of the town's history in America's expansion to the west. These photos show you that anyone can find joy in learning about history. Visiting Marietta can definitely give someone a deeper appreciation for Appalachia's earliest roots. However, it's important to remember and share the history of any community because that can help residents reflect on the place and realize that history can be found close to home too. #ValleyReality #ohiohistory

A family friend personally messaged me to share some interesting facts about Johnny Appleseed. He had family ties to Noble County and visited the region often. Some of his relatives are buried outside of present-day Dexter City. She thought that was fascinating because she's originally from Caldwell, Ohio, which is another small town in Noble County.
When I shared my call to action on the Washington County Ohio History & Genealogy Facebook page, I received two replies from group members. "Because it makes us who we are," said Linda McAtee Lysaght. A few days later, Trish Caldwell Landsittel responded by saying "1,000's of reasons to love Washington Co" followed by a link to Harmar Village's Facebook page.

The Ohio River Museum is one of the most underrated buildings in Marietta. This has to be one of my favorite spots along the river - and not because there are two Pokemon Go gyms ๐ Each pole represents a historic flood height. #livelovemov #ohiorivermuseum #MariettaOhio #ohioriver #myohioadventure #ohioexplored #midohiovalley #ohmymarietta #mymarietta

Le' Anchorage Upstairs ๐ sidenote: there was a bat in the attic and it flew directly at my head. Fun times. We didn't catch anything on our high tech ghostometers, but it was super interesting to explore this beaut. You must visit if you get a chance to wander on down to Marietta. ๐ค
