Gateway 2 Change: Part 2

23 Items

I attended the second of three Gateway 2 Change summits on race at Emerson World Headquarters in Ferguson, Nov. 17.

Dr. Charles Pearson, superintendent of Normandy Schools, was the Keynote speaker for this summit. He encouraged communication between the attendees of the summit.
At the beginning of his speech, Dr. Pearson defined four terms that he felt would be crucial to communication between summit attendees and businesses, taking place later in the day.
The goal of the summits is to combat racism in St. Louis communities. Dr. Pearson reminded the audience to be courageous when talking about racism, as it won't fight itself.
After the keynote, conversation moved to the results of the election and the impact on the people at the conference. Attendees watched a video from Prince E.A., spoken word artist, reflecting on why he thinks the election was a good thing.
