Dear all,
Welcome to the EIS Newsletter, Issue No. 35!
Only a 4-day week due to Russia Day on 12-6-24 which, incidentally, is my brother's birthday. He found it very interesting and actually quite humorous about this coincidence when I informed him. So, happy birthday to the Russian Federation and my brother!
Right, back to business. This week has seen the end of the exam process for the school. Not just external exams but internal assessments and tests as well, there or thereabouts. There may be the odd exception but they're done, by and large. Does that mean we switch off and relax? Not exactly; not yet, anyway. We need to make sure any gaps in our knowledge are filled and identified areas for development are tackled. In other words, we are not at the finish line just yet.
This week, naturally, has also paid witness to a large emphasis and focus on the musical rehearsals. Ms. Anna, in particular, has worked her socks off for the summer concert. It is such a large project to undertake and there are continuous changes needing to be made for one reason or another. It's all very demanding, but in the end, it will be all worth it. I have written this newsletter in advance as Friday I will be in the hotel all day, so good luck everyone!
As we know, at this time of the year students may leave early as schools and universities can dictate. Subsequently, we finally said goodbye to Arooba Y12 and her sisters. She came in with her father and we proudly awarded her and Areeba Y11 their graduation hoodies. I was also helping Rin Y13 with her university entry for her native homeland Japan. She will be with us until the last day, but good luck with the application, Rin. Interestingly, as I was completing the paper work, we had a visit from an ex-student named Melania. She is on course to start Sheffield University, England, to study law. We are immensely proud of her! A pleasant treat that was.
In other news, well done to the following for picking up Headteacher Awards in Year 5, most for being Maths geniuses as it happens:
Maya
Prokhar
Pannawat
Finally, well done to Minato Y3 for picking up set another ballet accolade. We all know she is super talented and we enjoy sharing her successes. First place again in a recent competition. Great stuff.
That's it from me, thank you!
All the best,
Mr. Lee N. Daglish - Head of School
EYFS
This has been a short week in Early Years. In Phonics we have almost finished working on the Phase 1 and 2 set of the ‘Jolly Phonics’ programme. We revised the rhymes, songs and actions of all the letters learned so far as well as the correct letter formation. The children experimented with trying to write the letter sounds on their mini whiteboards, after doing the formation on the big whiteboard with their finger. We consolidated our sounds through interactive white board games. This week we continued blending our CVC words ending in –at –ot –et. It is so exciting to see the children starting to read.
In Numeracy we continued developing our number sense in Numbers 1- 10. Taking into account differentiation as some groups are on 1-20. Understanding quantities. Grasping concepts like more and less, and larger and smaller. Recognizing relationships between single items and groups of items. Understanding symbols that represent quantities. Making number comparisons (5 is greater than 6, and two is half of four). Understanding the order of numbers in a list: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. ordinal numbers.
One of the goals of the EYFS programme is related to the Expressive Arts. Ms. Anna, our music teacher, plays an important part in helping the students reach this goal. Music threads through all areas of learning and development and is a way of exploring and communicating. It is often a way of expressing our feelings and it helps to develop auditory skills. Music is an important part of children’s learning and helps to ensure that they have a broad and rounded experience in early childhood and beyond.
In our music sessions, our students sing a variety and wide range of songs; they listen to all kinds of music taking note of the rhythm and rhyme and use percussion instruments to follow known tunes and create simple rhythms.
At the moment, we are all engaged in rehearsing for our ‘Summer Concert’. This has been a great opportunity for our children to learn many new songs, work cooperatively, follow instructions and gain further confidence. We are looking forward to being able to showcase our talents to you today. We know that you are going to thoroughly enjoy our concert.

YEAR 1
Year 1 have continued to learn English grammar this week. We wrote sentences with nouns, verbs, and adjectives. All children are remembering their capital letters and full stops, which is a great achievement. In mathematics we are filling in any areas of misconception, so all children are working on any questions they found hard in their assessment. Pair work is a great way for children to help each other. Ivan and Iusuf had fun working together in Mathematics.
We combined History and Geography together, using our map reading skills. Each child had an atlas and chose to follow the journeys of Christopher Columbus or Ibn Battuta. We looked at the countries they visited and oceans they crossed. Due to the rain, Year 1 spent a play time with EYFS and loved sitting at the lego table, drawing on the board and using the till to count the money. Thank you, Miss Irina!
Happy Birthday to Iosif 🙂 We played the floor is lava and found the cake delicious.

YEAR 2
Year 2 has spent a lot of time this week rehearsing and preparing for the concert on Friday. We are excited to show you our performance, and hope you enjoy it!
In Maths this week we were working on ratios and proportion. We have also been revising multiplication and addition.
Year 2 children have taken part in the whole school story writing competition, and we were working hard in our English lessons to come up with our own story and illustrate it. We have written wonderful stories and are happy to share them with the rest of the school.
In Science this week, we have started a new topic of Feeding and Exercise, and talked about healthy lifestyles and eating.
In Topic we have learnt about monsoons and floods, their causes and dangers. Some children shared their own experiences with these weather conditions.
We have also celebrated Misha's birthday on Thursday and enjoyed a delicious cake!
We hope to see you at the Summer concert!
