Disappearing Act, Or How One Arts Journalist Vanished into His Work For a Month or So ...

This is the primary reason I've been invisible lately: I've been working on an article for the paper, which has had me bounding across the city talking to people in far-flung corners of the arts community. I've been talking to rappers, and people who run art galleries, and people who book rock shows, people who create spaces where artists can create or learn skills, the occasional comedian or drag queen, and more. That's all I want to say about it right now, save that it's been tiring, madenning, and extremely rewarding, and that there were easier ways to do this, and I'm not sorry I didn't take them. A journey like this makes even someone like me – someone who knows the arts well by any standard – realize just how large the city's arts community really is, and how it connects people who don't always realize they're connected. The story will be out around Aug. 19. Hopefully, it'll live up to its potential, and not kill me along the way.

Television

The 2nd installment of my strange little project with WCCA TV, Got It Covered, is up, and it features the extremely talented Lovina singing Madonna's Live To Tell. A couple more episodes to come, and then we'll figure out if we want to make more. TV is strange. I'm still not used to it, but I get very excited when the finished product makes it to air.

Upcoming Publications

My poem Horror Movie Told in Tarot Readings has been accepted for the anthology, Dark Ink: A Poetry Anthology Inspired by Horror, from Moon Tide Press in California. So that's something to look forward to!

Recent Articles

Will be writing fewer of my regular columns for the next few weeks, as the big story commands my attention, but there have been, and will continue to be, a few odds and ends making their way into the world.
