Dear all,
Welcome to the EIS Newsletter, Issue No. 34!
The weather has been tumultuous but the students have remained steadfast and focused. Secondary have ongoing external exams but now KS3 has entered the chat! They now have end of year tests, assessments and exams to gauge the successes and areas of development from this year. Test results are not everything but, at the very least, they tend to confirm what we already know. Good luck to them all!
Our little ones - EYFS/Y1- had a lovely time at the 50th October Anniversary Park at Prospekt Vernadskogo for a summer trip. There are three excellent pay areas in close proximity to each other and know the gang had a great time accessing them. I am also told on good authority that they were all treated to an ice cream! Similarly, Y5 were out on Tuesday and they visited the Darwin Museum. I know that place is very popular amongst teachers and children alike. I understand that Y5 also accessed a local park after so really squeezed the most out of the day. Finally, Y3 visited the Botanical Gardens this week and managed to enjoy the serene and exquisite scenery under a blanket of sunshine. Luckily, the thunder did not start until they began to leave!
Some Y6 boys and the Y4 class also left school this week but this was not to embark on an educational visit, but to take part in a football tournament against CIS. Some of you may remember, CIS came to our school in autumn 2023 and we promised to pay those guys a visit this summer, which is what we did. Y6 have an excellent football team but so does CIS; we won the first leg narrowly and managed to repeat similar successes this time as well. Also, the Y4 class competed in boys and girls categories. Again, amazing victories! CIS must be sick of losing to us now. Let's see what next year brings, but the most important thing is the EIS once again represented the school remarkably well!
Finally, we ended the week wonderfully with the DofE Ceremony. Congratulations to Arturs Y9, Richards Y9, Rin Y12, Laura Y11 and Lily Y10 for their Bronze and Silver Awards. Check out these statistics for the Award:

Early Years experiences ‘The Great Outdoors’
This week Early Years together with Year 1 enjoyed a wonderful outing/picnic at the ‘October Park’ which is a forest park of 67 hectares of lush trees, flowers and shrubs. A great attraction is the numerous different playgrounds for children. The curriculum link of this outing was the topic on ‘The Great Outdoors’.
There’s lots of possibilities when it comes to outdoor play for EYFS. Children love to play in yards or playgrounds, as well as natural environments, like the beach or a woodland. Outdoor play can revolve around simple physical games that benefit children’s health and muscle development, like climbing or chasing. Their play might involve investigating and deepening their understanding of the world and natural processes around them. Outdoor play often gives children more freedom and autonomy than indoor play as they can explore and be independent.
When it comes to social skills, children can play in larger groups when given more space outdoors. This can help them develop better social skills and learn to manage their emotions in a large group.
For emotional development, any amount of time spent exercising in the fresh air boosts wellbeing and mental health among children. Given space to run, jump, climb, roll and skip outdoors, children can blow off steam, lower their stress levels, and improve their overall performance in education once they're back in the classroom.
Please enjoy the wonderful photos of your children in this amazing outdoor environment.

YEAR 1
Year 1 had a marvellous day in the park on Wednesday. We swung on the swings, slid down the slides, climbed many amazing constructions and finished our trip with a nice refreshing ice-lolly. It was a very hot day, so we spent time in the shade and drank lots of water to keep us hydrated. When we got back to school, we listened to some soothing classical music and rested, some of us even fell asleep!
In English we wrote sentences using 'there is' and 'there are'. We understood that when there is one object we say "There is a bed" but if there are two of something we say "There are two beds". Year 1 also thought about how to write sentences using noun-verb agreements.
In Science we played with water balls. They start of as tiny little beads but once left in water their properties change and the expand. It was exciting to see the before and after. We discussed why this happens and if we left them to dry would they go back to tiny little beads?
In History we continued to learn about famous explorers. We learnt about Neil Armstrong and discussed what it would be like to be the first person on the moon. Would it be cold? Would it be scary? Would we meet some aliens? All exciting questions and Year 1 came up with some interesting answers.
A fantastic week, Year 1 🙂
